Crowdfunding campaign for the documentary film project
"Nanay - a Filipino hero"
Nanay doesn't have much herself, but when she saw Nenita on the street, she gave her shelter and became her second mother.
This woman has given more than ten children a home. She is now 83 and still laughs and dances at the parties celebrated by the children she helped to survive. On special occasions, they come from all over the world to see and celebrate their foster mother Nanay and her siblings to show their gratitude, respect and love for this wonderful woman.
My name is Frank Sputh and I have been working as a cameraman, filmmaker and photographer since 1991. I am particularly interested in real life all over the world. Since 1991, I have traveled extensively with film projects, especially to the Philippines and South America. One focus has been projects with indigenous peoples. A documentary film project about indigenous Filipinos was the reason for my first trip to the Philippines in 1995, where I met Nenita Templo. She accompanied me to the Aeta of Lumibao in the province of Zambales for the first time. A love affair developed between us, but also with the Aeta and this magical place of Lumibao, which was separated from the neighboring villages by a lake after the eruption of the Pinatubo volcano in 1991. My seventh trip to the Philippines started on November 28, 2024 and will end on February 27, 2025. As before, I will once again visit the Aeta of Lumibao with Nenita. But this time I also want to portray the most important woman in Nenita's life, who looked after her and her siblings like a mother when they were in great need.
Nanay is the foster mother of my Filipino girlfriend Nenita Veloria Templo.
Nanay and Nenita in Pasay (Metro Manila) on April 15, 2019
Nenita wrote about it on facebook: "That is my best Mother that i never have.."
Nenita's mother died when Nenita was 15 years old. Her father was already living with another woman. Nenita was now responsible for her two younger siblings Mercy and Rudy. In the Philippine capital Manila, she met Nanay, Gertrudes Andrades, who lived with her husband, whom Nenita later called Tatay, and many children in very modest circumstances in the Malate district. When Nanay saw how Nenita and her siblings were struggling to survive, she decided to look after them too. Nanay is now 83 years old, has never begged for money even in the greatest need, has never been ill, has never been vaccinated, still paints her toenails and is almost always in a good mood.
Nenita has two younger siblings, her sister Mercy and her brother Rudy.
